Atsumasa Miura

Sept 20 - Oct 15, 2011

Thurs - Sat during the exhibition 1:00pm - 7:00pm

Marie Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition by Atsumasa Miura.

Atsumasa Miura has entitled each of his works "森象 (Shin-Sho)" . The artist intended to express the essence of nature in the title. Nature is like the source of life and also its termination. All life exists in this repetition. It seems elastic and majestic, and besides, it holds mystic beauty and fear.

Miura employs wood from Hinoki forest thinnings to create his objects in geometric constructions. These patterns represent the image of limitless forests and the ranged mountains which gather them. The unique colors of his pieces have great depth and express the nobility of nature.

Water is the theme of this exhibition. The rain that fell a long time ago passes through the mountains and is transformed to the flow of pure water. The water becomes a river, and runs to the sea. In time, it evaporates and changes to clouds. Eventually, it turns to rain and falls again on the mountains. Miura's works query the ideal state of never-ending life as the cycle of reincarnation.
