Marie Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition by Masao Inoue.

Using his painting as a medium Masao Inoue connects pleasant spaces from memory and other familiar spaces. The spaces Inoue creates start from a space like a room and go through windows to the next space and then link to the sky and the sea. The painting also becomes a window which leads a viewer standing in a real space into the space of his painting.

Several different spaces exist in his work. The spaces shown here are not divided by walls constructed here but rahter by the borders between colors and unpainted areas. The borders also seem very vague, but that is why viewers can recognize the real space where they are.

Further, there are always some light in Inoue's painting. The light, for example; escaping from a paper-lamp and the brilliant rays of the sun, shine in each room. The relationship between the spaces and the light builds his fantastic world. That world links with spaces in the viewers' minds. Each space is tied to a scene in memory and also a different sphere where they hope to be.

According to Inoue the paintings in this exhibition are the "best" of his career so far.
