Hideo Takagi

Jun 22 - Jul 7, 2012

Thurs - Sat during the exhibition 1:00pm - 7:00pm

Marie Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition by Hideo Takagi.

In his work, Hideo Takagi shows the relationship between nature and human beings by way of a man, such as himself, starting with the action of exploring the origin of occurring natural phenomenon.

He has always thought that humans are kept alive by nature. Further, while considering how he was formed by nature, he has felt the need to create a natural system.

Takagi’s work is made of paper. The paper is made of wood. Previously, paper was made of leftover pieces of wood. After the paper had been used, it could be burned or even used to blow one's nose. With the development of civilization, however, new trees were cut to make paper wastefully and the used paper was thrown away recklessly. Throughout his life he has been impressed by this transition.

Takagi uses the media mentioned above and expresses nature thorough form. By interacting with paper, he creates something concerning nature with his own hands. He presents his real experience as having passed through the microcosm and macrocosm.

The theme of this exhibition is "the unnaturalness of perfect beauty". In his previous works, Takagi expressed the nature around him, and the existence of both “emptiness” and “rebirth” co-exist. This time, the regular tetrahedron connected only at the apex emphasizes the instability of existence, and questions what people recognize as "perfection".
